Children's Book Illustrator Intro: First Blog Post! KIDLIT Postcard Day

Every first Thursday of the month is #kidlitpostcardday where children's book illustrators create a postcard to showcase their recent work in hopes of connecting with more illustrators, agents and publishers within the community. It's encouraged to include your name, contact info and website. You can also state if you are seeking representation and what style of work suits you.

Here is my first submission for November 202 3 posted across my various social media platforms.

Let me introduce myself briefly: My name is Brittnie Brotzman. I am an illustrator living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. I come from an animation and game art background, which most of my 10+ years of professional work has centered on. I've enjoyed my career, however, recently I was lucky enough to illustrate my first children's book with author Rene Rawls, titled: Sule, the Proverb Detective: the Case of the Tied-up Lion. It's a wonderful book which you can find out more about on my website under the "Books" section. The experience reminded me of my childhood passion to write and illustrate my own stories, so I decided it was time to finally start focusing on what I've always truly loved: storytelling. Over the last couple of months I have been working on pieces that reflect a style and direction I wish to go in and soon I will be reaching out to agents for representation.

For now, I'm dipping my toes into the kidlit pool with this postcard.

Please stay tuned for further updates and lots more art!

Whimsical illustration of a girl with a flower basket walking along a path with a black cat. Both are about to enter a beautiful forest as a crow flies above them. A black feather floats down from the sky and the girl is turned looking at it.
